Two young and dynamic artists from Antwerp, Belgium are challenging the creative Berlin art scene at White Rabbit Berlin. Often acting as a collective, this duo generates and exchanges new ideas, discusses and then refines them in order to come to a new ‘universe’ distillated out of all their impulses regarding the city and society. This collaboration is reminiscent of others we also see recently in different cities over the world, especially in Los Angeles, but also in New York with Dan Colen, Ryan  McGinley and the late Dash Snow.  In Antwerp such a dynamic art scene exists where temporarily collectives arise and change all the time. It is especially these inter changes that guarantee the extreme dynamic aspect of the art they make, with various media, like painting, drawing, video, audio, sculptures.

For their show in Berlin, Lieven and Bart transform the whole space of the gallery in a new, personal   universe through their installation, in which drawings, photographs, sculptures, and videos are “organized” to interact with the space and each other, while the works of each artists retains their specificity. These interactions create tension and surprises that give an extra dimension to the show.

The Antwerp based artists Lieven Segers and Bart Van Dijck are showing their works in the new exhibition “From The Safran House”. The title is derived from their downstairs neighbour, a Turkish travel agent. Both live in the house above Safrans’ agency.  They worked and exhibited together on several occasions and through various projects. In 2OO7 they had their first duo show “Drawings From The Safran House” at ‘85 Gallery in Antwerp.

The work of Lieven Segers (° 1975, Geel, Belgium, lives and works in Antwerp) consists of drawings photographs and videos. He is inspired by daily life in all his forms: absurd, tragic and funny. His fuzzy and anecdotic drawings, often combined with handwritten texts, refer as well to his personal life as the praxis of the artist.

Bart van Dijck (°1974 Antwerp, Belgium, lives and works in Antwerp) makes drawings, videos and sculptures. His main topic is the construction and deconstruction of the identity. He is interested as well in the identity of the artist as the cultural identity of a nation, country, tribe or subculture.
