Candie HankIf you've always wondered what it would sound like if a crazy Belgian were to make mashups of booty bass and Russian easy listening look no further: welcome to the world of Candie Hank. Groucho Running has it all. The main flavour here is noodley Mssr Chuppsian madness (to whose label he is now signed), however it is where the other elements come through that Candiehank really gets interesting. We all go die tonight is a hard trashy club stormer that could easliy tear up any floor at 5 in the morning. Booty Bank sounds like an Uzbekistani folk band doing covers of Dj Assault on acid, Kids stay united is another driving track with rockabilly guitars accompanied by gabba paced backing with bits of drill'n'bass thrown in for kicks whilst Sundown includes a beautiful theremin led track reminiscent of everything great about early sci-fi b-movies. Best of the recent Our Mouth stuff is the first Sullivan solo CD-R. Sullivan's comes under the name Eskimo King, and /Tooth-Shaped Migration/ is five thick, detailed chunks of sound spread over a quick 17 minutes. What I dig most about Sullivan is his wide-open outlook on what sounds are worth making. Mouthus may concoct a lot of deep, textured noise, but they also use acoustic guitar loops, dirgey metal-like stomps, polyrhtyhmic meditations, busted rock riffs, and tons more.
