Bongout Showroom: Ghana Movie Posters

The ‘Ghana Movie Posters’ show in the Bongout showroom is a collection of paintings, certainly unfamiliar to the art – college trained eye. The exhibition consists of the actual promotional posters for the cinema in two towns in Ghana - Accra and Kumasi. The cinema industry is a term to describe the mobile cinemas there that in material description can be reduced to a TV monitor, a VCR and an electricity generator.

Alice Miceli: Is It Possible To Touch The Invisible?

Alice Miceli is not your ordinary artist. Her work consists more of science than of art, but don’t think in any way that her pieces are cold or inhuman. Truly, they show sometimes the worst in humanity, destruction that laid an area of 30 km bare and uninhabitable, but congruously an immense hope for the future. Miceli’s work now is an in-progress project stretching from her home country of Brazil to here in Germany, to the Exclusion Zone surrounding the Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant in the Ukraine and Belarus; she hopes to capture images of radiation, something that no one has yet done before.

Two Coins: The House Is Burning on DVD

To start with one of those names: Walter Benjamin famously described involuntary memory using the example of Proust's madeleine: with one bite of a pastry, the narrator's remembered youth, associated in his mind with the taste of a delicacy, enlarges (a lot). In The House is Burning, involuntary memory occurs as a kid going to war watches his girlfriend rolling Lucky Strike cigarettes, reminding him of his mother's habit.

Strictly Personal: Tony Parsons - David Wojnarowicz

Richard Hell: Godlike - small and clear glimpses

Hell, best known for his outstanding work during the seventies with the Voidoids and Television, has carefully crafted his second novel Godlike, published last year on Akashic Books under Dennis Cooper`s Little House on the Bowery series. The novelette is structured as the notebooks/novel of a hospitalized writer reflecting back on his Lower East Side love affair twenty years prior with a rather off-putting teenage poet. The plot and characters are based loosely on the late 1800s poets love affair between Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud set in the grime of early 1970s New York.

The Monks - I Hate You (...but call me)

It´s about the matter of principles«.
